Napa Valley: California`s commitment to wine tourism

In Napa Valley, wineries generally prefer to maintain control over their own product. The quality of the wines is exceptional, and they are also strongly committed to wine tourism and direct engagement with consumers.

Napa is California’s most renowned wine region, the mecca of cutting-edge New World winemaking and a global paradise for wine tourism. Visitors are drawn by its beautiful and majestic landscape. The valley offers excellent wine, culture, and food, providing the perfect opportunity to relax and escape from everyday life.

Today’s viticulture in Napa could be described as highly professional in the broadest sense of the word. The developments of the past decade, the recognition of the quality of its wines and the expansion of its market, together with the high levels of investment required, largely due to the high price of land, have contributed to a situation in which the technical training of professionals involved in the sector is extremely high.

Nowadays, Napa Valley is home to nearly 400 wineries and many more wine brands.

Their producers and winemakers combine cutting-edge science with traditional techniques, and their reputation for producing wines of international quality is firmly established in an ever-growing global market. It is a region that enjoys a strong image thanks to its internal and external communication tools (Altés, 1993:78).

Among the different activities that take place in Napa Valley are those offered by the Napa Valley Wine Train, a train that provides a relaxing three-hour journey along a thirty-six-mile round trip between the historic city of Napa and the picturesque town of Saint Helena, passing through one of the most famous valleys in the wine world. Guests on board the Wine Train can enjoy the option of a lunch or dinner prepared to order while taking in views of the vineyards and wineries from the Pullman cars dating from 1915–1917 or from the 1956 Vista Dome car, which has been beautifully restored.

Wine tasting in Napa Valley can be overwhelming, with hundreds of wineries to visit. If you plan to buy wine, there are thousands to choose from. But how do you know which wineries to visit? It can be hard to decide. The team of wine professionals on board the train can provide guidance about the different options available.
